CHEN Chengwen: »Lorbeerbaum«

The piece is a confrontation of the metamorphosis of Daphne. Her transformation into a laurel tree while fleeing Apollo has implications for both her own inner world and her outer environment. What inspires me here is the commute between several perspectives, which are actually parallel worlds, and how this simultaneity can be represented – in Ovid in the literary approach, in Pollaiuolo in the painterly composition. In the branching moment, it tears the body apart and at the same time it grows into the new one. Based on this intensive art experience, I implemented the story musically and scenically and combined the ambiguous sounds with their sensual and transformed, abstract levels into one expression.
